The world's second two-step BDO company successfully started production!

In the first quarter of this year, Shandong Landon Biotechnology Co., Ltd. successfully put into production its two-step bio-based BDO. This is the second company in China to officially put into production bio-based BDO after Yuanli Chemical Group Co.

At present, the main BDO production processes in the market are: acetal, propyl alcohol, butadiene and maleic anhydride. The only companies using biological BDO are: Novamont (Italy), Genomatica (USA), BASF (Germany), DSM, Mitsubishi Chemical, Mylanate, etc. The total global production capacity does not exceed 100,000 tons/year.

Although the process stability and product performance of bio-based BDO have yet to be verified, its future development prospect is still favored by the industry. The reason is that, compared with petroleum-based BDO, bio-based BDO has low production cost and is obtained from raw material conversion by organisms; it is environmentally friendly, reducing more than 50% of greenhouse gases in the whole production process, and the downstream degradable plastic products made from bio-based BDO meet the global biomass content standards. Therefore, there are also many companies at home and abroad are entering the bio-based BDO market one after another, for example, Jinfa Technology in China is expected to officially put into production 10,000 tons/year bio-based BDO project at the end of December 2023, and Cargill in the United States is expected to officially put into production 65,000 tons/year one-step bio-based BDO in 2024 ......
