BDO, also known as 1,4-butanediol, 1 4 butylene glycol, butane-1,4-diol, CAS 110 63 4, is an important organic compound with a wide range of applications in polyester plastics, polyurethane materials, polyester polyols, biodegradable polymers, pharmaceuticals and hygiene products. The following are some of the main application areas of BDO.
1. Polyester plastics: BDO is one of the important raw materials for the production of polyester plastics (such as polybutylene diene ester), which are widely used in food packaging, household products, stationery, electronic equipment and automobiles, etc.
2. Polyurethane materials: BDO can react with diisocyanate (TDI) or polyisocyanate (MDI) to produce polyurethane materials, such as elastomers, foams, coatings, adhesives and so on. Polyurethane-based materials are widely used in automobiles, furniture, construction, shoe materials and other fields. It is also the main raw material for THF and PTMEG. Half of the world's BDO is used to produce THF.
3. Biodegradable polymers: Biodegradable materials have always been a hot topic. BDO can be used to prepare a variety of biodegradable polymers, such as polybutylene succinate (PBT), polycaprolactone (PCL) and polyhydroxybutyl ester (PHB). These materials have good biodegradable properties and are widely used in food packaging, medical devices and soil improvement.
4. Medicine and hygiene products: BDO is one of the raw materials for manufacturing some medicine and hygiene products (such as deoxycholic acid, polyacrylate, etc.). It can also be used to prepare N-methylpyrrolidone,NMP, N-vinylpyrrolidone and other pyrrolidone derivatives, and also used to prepare vitamin B6, pesticides and herbicides.
Other applications: BDO can also be used for the preparation of optical materials, solvents, feed, spices, dyes, etc. As well as used as plasticizer, lubricant, humidifier, softness, adhesive and brightening agent in electroplating industry for a variety of processes.
