Storage Conditions/Storage Methods: Packed tightly, packaged lightly, stored in a ventilated room away from open flames, high temperatures, stored separately from oxidising agents.


Stability related:


1. Colourless liquid, with ammonia smell, this product has little toxicity. Miscible with water, soluble in most organic solvents such as ether, acetone. Can dissolve most organic and inorganic compounds, polar gases, natural and synthetic polymer compounds.


2.Chemical Properties: It is stable in neutral solution. In 4% sodium hydroxide solution, 50%~70% hydrolysis occurs after 8 hours. Gradually hydrolysed in concentrated hydrochloric acid to form 4-methylaminobutyric acid CH3NH(CH2)3COOH. due to the reaction of carbonyl group, it can form ketal or thiopyrrolidone.


3. In the presence of alkali catalyst and olefin interaction, alkylation reaction in the 3rd position. N-methyl pyrrolidone is weakly alkaline, can produce hydrochloride. Forms adducts with heavy metal salts, for example, with nickel bromide heated to 150 ℃ to produce NiBr2(C5H9ON)3, melting point 105 ℃.


Usage 1: Widely used in the refining of high-grade lubricating oil, synthesis of polymers, insulating materials, pesticides, pigments and detergents.


Usage 2: It is an excellent solvent, widely used as extractant for aromatics extraction, lubricant refining, acetylene concentration, syngas desulphurisation, etc. It is also used for industrial cleaning.


Usage 3: N-Methyl pyrrolidone is an excellent extraction solvent, widely used as extractant in the process of aromatics extraction, acetylene concentration, butadiene separation and desulfurisation of syngas, etc., and also a solvent in the production of pesticides, engineering plastics, coatings, synthetic fibres, integrated circuits, etc., and can be used as industrial detergents, dispersing agents, dyeing agents, lubricating oils, such as antifreezing agents. The product has low toxicity, rat oral LD50 is 7ml/kg.
