Application of HDO in polyurethane

HDO is short for 1,6-hexanediol,HEXAMETHYLENE GLYCOL, cas 629-11-8, which is an important polyurethane raw material widely used in the polyurethane industry as a major component of elastomers and rigid foams. The following are the applications of HDO in the polyurethane industry.

Preparation of polyurethane elastomers: HDO can be reacted with isocyanate compounds (e.g. MDI, TDI, etc.) to prepare polyurethane elastomers. Compared with other polyether polyols, HDO has higher glass transition temperature and lower viscosity, so it can improve the mechanical properties, heat resistance and wear resistance of polyurethane elastomers.


Preparation of polyurethane rigid foam: HDO can be reacted with MDI and TDI to prepare polyurethane rigid foam. Polyurethane rigid foam has excellent insulation, sound absorption and durability properties, so it is widely used in the construction and furniture industries.

Preparation of polyurethane coatings: HDO can be reacted with isocyanate compounds and ester exchangers (such as 1,4-butanediol, ethylene glycol, etc.) to prepare polyurethane coatings. Polyurethane coatings have excellent wear resistance, chemical stability and weather resistance, and are therefore widely used in automobiles, machinery, home appliances and other fields.
